SOMNIUM

Concept

Player is lost within a 3D dream world reflecting their mind and experiences with mental health.

A 3D first person shooter game with 4 areas spanning 1 continuous level, created for an academic second year college project to the core theme of 'Mental Health', raising awareness and drawing on my own personal experiences.

Development time:  September 2020 - April 2021

 

Roles covered:

Design: Original concept, mechanics, UI, UX, level layout and gameplay

3D Artist: 3D models creation and texturing using Maya & Photoshop

Programmer: Set up blueprints and full game build within Unreal Engine

Skills used:

  • ​Scale planned levels using Microsoft Excel with clear key for gameplay aspects, gameplay walkthrough 

  • Designed effective gameplay logic, flow and balance using spreadsheet statistic tracking

  • White boxed and finalised a dynamic level in Unreal Engine

  • Implemented character animations, hazards, AI, moving platform and puzzle challenges using blueprint visual scripting system

  • Extensive playtesting with target audience and refinement of accessibility, concept, challenge and balance

  • Detailed documentation and continuous project management maintained throughout
