NIGHT OF THE LIVING SNOW

Concept

The player is a young vampire tasked with saving Santa from evil undead snowmen, locating him within their lair armed only with snowballs. Created initially for a game jam with the theme of Christmas, my first solo game development project  saw me go through the game development process from start to finish from design to the final build of a 2D side scrolling platform game with 3 levels. 

 

Roles covered:

Design: Original concept, mechanics, UI, UX, level layout, gameplay

2D Artist: Created all the 2D art using Piskel and Photoshop

Visual Scripting: Set up blueprints within Unreal Engine

Skills used:

  • ​Scale planned levels using Microsoft Excel with clear key for gameplay aspects, walkthrough and HUD statistic updates

  • Designed effective gameplay logic, flow and balance using spreadsheet statistic tracking

  • White boxed and finalised 3 dynamic levels in Unreal Engine

  • Implemented character animations, hazard, progressive difficulty AI and moving lift platforms using  blueprint visual scripting system

  • Extensive playtesting and refinement of accessibility and challenge balance
